Colorado ๐
Itโs been a while! As we entered the second half of this trip time started moving very quickly and the last four weeks have been an absolute whirlwind. ๐
After being told by various people that we had chose the best time to visit to Colorado we were very rightfully very excited. ๐
Our first stop was Mesa Verde National Park where we visited the remarkable cliff dwellings and archaeological sites that, for over 700 years, the Ancestral Pueblo people built thriving communities on. The park was so fascinating and, as we had been told, the autumn colours were starting to show. ๐
We then headed east into the small, but beautiful city of Durango. We set up camp at a charming retired ranch, owned by a lovely couple who offered so much, a well kept site, plenty of recommendations, and a bucket for a toilet ๐คฃ๐ฝ
Our time in Colorado was spent driving through endless stretches of beautiful autumnal scenery including along the โMillion Dollar Highwayโ which was jaw-dropping and exploring the Swiss-like mountain towns such as Silverton, Ouray, and Aspen. โฐ๏ธ๐๐ฒ
Nothing could have prepared us for the beauty of Colorado and we very quickly decided that this was our favourite place yet, a statement we still stand by six states later! ๐คฉ
Whilst we fell in love with Colorado we were not ready for the impact the high altitude would have on our bodies. We were dipping between elevations of 7,000 - 11,000 feet and towards the end of the week we got altitude sickness and Mia was bed bound for a couple of days. ๐คข
Itโs taken us a while to write this post as we were struggling to find the words to describe the profound impact Colorado had on us. We will definitely be back!
Much Love Mia and Josh โค๏ธ
